photo for marketing2I am an associate professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, with a joint appointment in the Department of Geography and the International Institute. Broadly conceived, my research concerns the political and geographical dynamics of war, violence and peace, or what I call conflict geographies. Topics of particular interest include geopolitics, ethnic conflict, nationalism, intrastate war, postwar peacebuilding, Southeast European politics, military labor, military contracting and the militarization of U.S. foreign policy.
